5 Things you need to know about Islam

Alhamdulillah. Thanks to Mr Ng Kuan Beng cause willing to edit my short essay about Islam. The purpose is to introduce Islam among my non-Muslim friends. They had never heard anything about Islam and I think its our responsible as Muslims to tell them. I will tell them just a little about Islam cause they might not understand if I tell them a lot. I will go on this statement I created. May Allah bless and easy our way to tell Islam to them.

And this is the one being edit by Mr Ng Kuan Beng.

1) Who is Allah SWT

Allah is the ultimate creator. He created everything .Created the earth ( sky, mountain, sea, rain, trees, cloud etc ) , the moon & sun , animals, the universe ,the devils (who choose to be evil themselves), the heaven & hell and us - Human. Quran has given us some formula of knowing who He is through Surah Al Ikhlas

(Quran 112:1-4) where it stated: Say, "He is Allah , [who is] One, Allah , the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent."

We never see Allah but we can feel His presence. Its like the wind. we could not see winds, but we can feel its effect. right ? In addition, no one has ever see Love but we can feel the effect of love. Similarly even though no one has ever see Allah, we can still feel His presence and manifestation through His creation such as the universe, our own body. His creation indicate to us that there is a Creator and there is no such thing as coincidence in the existence of such complex creation. Thus He (Allah) is the one we should worship and submit our will to as Allah is our creator and He (Allah) knows us best.

2) Definition of Islam and muslim

The word islam was derived from 3 arabic word salam (peace), aslama (submission) and salima (authentic). In conclusion Islam means one need to fully submit their will to Allah by following the authentic guidance which is Quran and authentic Hadith in order to gain eternally happiness. Islam is a way of life where it covers every aspect of our life. Some of the example is Islam teaches a Muslim to say the name of Allah before eat, eat with right hand, don’t waste food when eating, don’t curse the food while eating it and give praise to Allah when finish eating.

Muslim is one who submit its will to Allah by following His command. Planet, sun, our human organ, animal are all example of Muslim as they follow the system set by Allah. Human can be Muslim as well if they choose to obey Allah command. We should never evaluate Islam by looking at the example of Muslim as Islam is perfect but Muslim is not as human tends to make mistakes. If we want to learn and understand Islam, we should always go back to its authentic and original source that is The Quran and Authentic hadiths.

3) What is Al- Quran

The Qur’an is the literal word of God, The Almighty (Allah in Arabic), revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the Angel Gabriel.

“The revelation of The Book is from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise.” Qur’an 39:1

The Qur’an is “a guidance for mankind… and the distinction (between right and wrong).”Qur’an 2:185

It provides direction to help mankind judge between right and wrong, without which, man would surely be in loss. The Quran is revealed in Arabic language to Prophet Muhammad over a period of 23 years.

The Qur’an does not contradict modern science but rather, supports it. One of the most remarkable aspects about the Qur’an is that it contains many verses which accurately describe natural phenomenon in various fields such as embryology, meteorology, astronomy, geology and oceanography. Scientists have found its descriptions incredibly accurate for a book dating back to the 7th century.

“We shall show them Our Signs in the Universe and within their own selves, until it becomes clear to them that this is the Truth.”Qur’an 41:53

When people write, they are bound to make mistakes such as spelling and grammar, contradictory statements, incorrect facts, omission of information, and other various errors.

“Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely, have found in it (the Qur’an) many contradictions.”Qur’an 4:82
The Qur’an has no contradictions and mistakes at all.

4) Who is prophet Muhammad

“Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example to follow for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.”Qur’an 33:21

Muslims believe that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final Prophet in a long chain of Prophets sent to call the people to the obedience and worship of Allah alone. Some of these Prophets include Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon and Jesus (peace be upon them all). Just as Moses (peace be upon him) was sent with the Torah (the original uncorrupted revelation sent to Moses) and Jesus (peace be upon him) with the Gospel (the original, uncorrupted revelation – not the present-day versions),

Muslims believe that Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent with the Qur’an to demonstrate how its teachings should be applied. The Prophet’s (peace be upon him) wife, ‘A’isha, was once asked to describe the Prophet (peace be upon him), and she replied that “his character was a reflection of the Quran” (Hadith by Muslim), meaning he meticulously implemented the noble teachings of the Qur’an into his daily life.

Mahatma K Gandhi, a major political and spiritual leader of the Indian independence movement, remarked about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and in his own mission. These and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every obstacle.”

George Bernard Shaw, the British playwright, declared: “The world is in dire need of a man with the mind of Muhammad; religious people in the Middle Ages, due to their ignorance and prejudice, had pictured him in a very dark way as they used to consider him the enemy of Christianity. But after looking into the story of this man I found it to be an amazing and a miraculous one, and I came to the conclusion that he was never an enemy of Christianity, and must be called instead the saviour of humanity. In my opinion, if he was to be given control over the world today, he would solve our problems and secure the peace and happiness which the world is longing for.”

5) Judgement day

Death is one of the few indisputable facts of life. Regardless of faith, race, status or age, we will all die. This world is not permanent life for us. While the certainty of death is universally accepted, the question of what happens afterwards has been debated throughout history.
Why there is a need for judgement day?

Humans naturally seek justice in all aspects of their lives. When a person works, they expect to receive an appropriate salary. When an individual is harmed, they seek compensation. When someone helps another, they anticipate appreciation for their effort. Even though humans strive hard to establish justice, the reality is that this world will never be perfectly just. Many criminals go unpunished while the oppressed are denied basic rights. Do their lives simply dissolve without any accountability or fair dealing?

God proclaims in the Quran, “Do those who commit evil deeds really think that We will deal with them in the same way as those who believe and do righteous deeds, that they will be alike in their living and their dying? How badly they judge!” (Quran 45:21).

In Islam, one of the greatest injustices humans can commit is to deny God’s existence, add partners to Him or worship worldly ideals or materialistic goals. Islam teaches that God is the Creator, Sustainer and Nourisher of every being in the heavens and the earth. As His creation, it is His right that we worship and obey Him. He showers us with His blessings every day out of His love and mercy.

Worshiping Him is an expression of gratitude to God, and ignoring Him or worshiping others is ungratefulness and a denial of His blessings. If our man-made judicial systems punish people for committing injustices against other people, it is even more understandable that God would punish those who deny Him His rights and commit injustices against His creation.

God says in the Quran, “We shall set up scales of justice for the Day of Judgment, so that not a soul will be dealt with unjustly in the least, and if there be (no more than) the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it (to account): and enough are We to take account” (Quran 21:47).

As imperfect beings, we often make mistakes and commit wrong actions. While God does not expect perfection from us, He calls on us to strive to the utmost to worship Him and to live righteously. Out of His Mercy, God pardons whom He wills in the hereafter.

God promises us in the Quran: “And those who believe and do righteous deeds – We will surely remove from them their misdeeds and will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do” (Quran 29:7)
